Color & Color Illusions Workshops:
1. A CELEBRATION OF COLOR
If you are apprehensive about selecting colors and fabrics for your quilt projects and you only have one day to learn color basics, then this class is for you. You will learn what companion colors work best with your favorite color, how you can create your own dynamically-colored quilts, and how you can use your favorite colors to their fullest potential. Also, you will learn how easy it is to work intuitively with color through visual coloring. You’ll be amazed at how much you can learn about color basics in one day. Class length: 1 day All skill levels
2. “LIGHTING UP” YOUR QUILTS
It’s surprising how easy it is to light up your quilts with seemingly magical color effects. We begin class by going over the most important color basics, so that you have a good foundation of color understanding. Then we will explore the fascinating world of color illusions in quilts, beginning with depth, luminosity, and luster. As time permits, we will experiment with the illusions of shadows, highlights, and transparency. It is my goal to have you leave class excited to begin using these amazing illusions in your future quilts. (This is my favorite color class.) Class length: 2 or 3 days All skill levels
3. COLOR PLAY
This class is for those who want to explore color in every possible way. In class you will work both with paint and fabric. Color blending, color scales, values, temperature, after-images, color schemes, and several illusionary effects will be included in this most colorful class. You’ll be amazed at how much you’ll learn by painting and experimenting with color! Paint fee is approximately $25.00. Class length: 4 or 5 days All skill levels
4. CREATING A SCENE WITH PIZZAZZ
This class is for nature lovers, regardless of piecing or appliqué techniques! You will have fun creating two “cut and paste” fabric scenes while learning all of those important concepts about how to creating beautiful landscapes. You will see how easy it is to incorporate depth, luster, and luminosity. You will create 2 cut/paste landscape scenes in class to experience working with these concepts. As time permits, we will take a visual trip via slides to enjoy beautiful nature and landscape quilts from all over the world. Class length: 1 day All skill levels (I love this class!)
Traditional Block Play & Drafting Workshops
5. A MARRIAGE OF BLOCKS
Create beautiful original traditional designs by learning how to use blending-block and exploding- block design techniques. You will be surprised at how easy it is to create exciting new designs with many of our much-loved traditional patterns. By the end of class, you should have at least one new design to use in a future quilt. Please note: handout fee for exercises: $2.00. Class length: 1 day All skill levels
6. DESIGN EXTRAVEGANZA—-SENSATIONAL PATTERNS & HOW TO DRAFT THEM
Learn how to design some of the most beautiful patterns in the quilt world by using easy drafting methods. Patch-patterns, eight-pointed star designs, mariners’ compass, starburst patterns, and six-pointed star designs will be featured, as time permits. Class length: 1 day All skill levels
7. CIRCLES GALORE
Design your own beautiful circular designs as your quilt’s focus. In the morning, you will learn how to draw basic circular designs. In the afternoon you will use your favorite design elements to begin drawing a design for a future quilt. You have the option of designing a quilt using a traditional setting or you may play with your design in a very creative manner. Class length: 1 day All skill levels
8. STRETCHING & SQUEEZING—EXERCISING YOUR BLOCKS
Traditional-block quilts are captivating when they are stretched and squeezed in different directions. Learn how to create fascinating quilts by changing a block’s design grid. You’ll enjoy the exciting new designs that evolve when blocks are changed from squares to rectangles—-or magically evolve into another captivating shape. Learn how to play with design to create quilts with fascinating shapes and exciting movement. Class length: 1/2 or 1 day All skill levels
Design Workshops
9. ADVENTURES in DESIGN―EXPANDING THE V ISUAL DANCE
In this workshop you will learn the keys to successful designing, so that your quilts’ designs live up to their potential. You will investigate ways to focus on your favorite design features. In addition, you will begin discovering the characteristics of your own design style. Design choices, innovative ideas, border concerns, and design pit-falls will be presented in class. Class length: 3-5 days All Skill Levels
10. ADVENTURES IN DESIGN―An Extended 9-Month Design Class
This class gives you time to explore and experiment with the entire design spectrum of elements and principles during an extended 9-month, 8-day class. Each month’s class builds upon the concepts learned in previous sessions. We begin by working with the most basic ideas and move sequentially forward, learning, experimenting, and exploring. There is homework to do between classes.

11. FANTASIA
Fantasia is a quilt that I designed based on my offset log cabin pattern. You can see this quilt on this website and on Amazon.com. 1 day class all skill levels
12. Curve-Piecing Flower Designs
In class students bring a simple flower picture to use as their design inspiration. They learn how to enlarge and modify their designs and how to technically create (sew) these curved designs. 1-day class intermediate and advanced skill level
